Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
The Daughters of Charity Health Systems is a regional health care system spanning the California coast from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Officially formed in 2002, its history of providing health care goes back to the mid-1800s when five Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul arrived in San Francisco and founded a Catholic hospital and orphanage. Today, six hospitals and a network of urgent care centers and primary and specialty care groups are part of the nonprofit, religious organization. Hospitals in the system include: Seton Medical Center, Daly City; Seton Coastside, Moss Beach; O’Connor Hospital, San Jose; Saint Louise Regional Hospital, Gilroy; St. Vincent Medical Center, Los Angeles; St. Francis Medical Center, Lynwood; and the Daughters of Charity Health Systems Medical Foundation based in San Jose.
The organization’s mission is to serve the sick and the poor with education, health care and social and pastoral ministries. More than 8,000 people work for the health system, including physicians, staff, Daughters and volunteers. Care is provided in over 20 languages to meet the needs of California’s diverse population.
