Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
The Coastal States Stewardship Foundation, headquartered in Washington, D.C., was formed in 2004 to address the urgent issues raised by the Pew Oceans Commission and the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy. The foundation works in partnership with public, private and academic interests to support healthy coastal ecosystems and prosperous coastal communities for the benefit of current and future generations.
In order to fulfill its goals, the foundation encourages coastal managers to explore and apply the most innovative management techniques and use science-based decision-making in their work to address the nation's pressing coastal economic, social, cultural and environmental issues. The foundation also promotes improved stewardship of ocean and coastal resources and educates the public about the benefits and value of healthy and productive coastal ecosystems.
