Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Established in 1988, the California Council on Science and Technology engages preeminent researchers and thought-leaders in the fields of science and technology to provide advice to state policymakers. The Sacramento-based organization is dedicated to providing impartial expertise that extends beyond the resources or perspective of any single institution with the goal of ensuring that decision-making is informed by science. The council also aims to be a catalyst for scientists to engage in public policy.
The organization’s Legislative Science and Technology Policy Fellows Program places professional scientists and engineers in the California State Legislature for one-year appointments. The fellows work directly with policymakers to develop solutions to complex scientific and technical issues facing California through their interaction with the legislative process. The council also sponsors a senior fellows program made up of scientists and technical experts who provide politically neutral, expert advice and solutions to science and technology-related public policy issues.
