Nurses drive change in the way hospitals provide adult acute care.

Registered nurses are not only caregivers, but also scientists, leaders and educators. They are critical to the care we receive and they are at the center of our initiative’s work. Since 2004, the Betty Irene Moore Nursing Initiative has focused on the role of nurses in improving patient care. We’ve been able to drive change in the way hospitals provide adult acute care throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and in Greater Sacramento. We approach our work through four key strategies:

Initiative Overview

Approach and Impact

thumb1

Ensuring a sufficiently large and well-prepared RN workforce

Strengthening the leadership skills of RNs and other frontline clinicians

Implementing evidence-based practices in the inpatient care setting

Improving the transition of patients from the hospital

Through these strategies, our grantee partners have measurably improved patient care in more than 80 percent of the adult acute care hospitals in the Bay Area and Sacramento. By developing and implementing regional solutions to improving care and strengthening the workforce, we've seen care become safer and more reliable.
