Biography

Paul Anastas is a chemist, teacher, author, entrepreneur, and public servant. Paul began his career at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency before taking on roles at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, including as director of the Environment Division. He then led the Green Chemistry Institute, a nonprofit that he co-founded after its merger with the American Chemical Society, before moving to Yale University in 2007. During the first term of the Obama Administration, Anastas held the Senate-confirmed position of assistant administrator of the U.S. EPA for Research and Development. Paul joined the Moore Foundation after serving as a Yale University professor and director of Yale’s Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering.

Paul has dedicated his life to advancing science and engineering for sustainability. In addition to his academic, nonprofit, and governmental work, he has co-founded several companies focused on sustainable innovations. In addition, Anastas has published 16 books and over 200 scientific papers on chemistry and sustainable innovation.

Paul Anastas was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and spent much of his professional life in Washington, D.C., and New Haven. His favorite activities are anything he does with his wife and two daughters.
