Biography
Mariana serves as a program officer for the Andes Amazon Initiative at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, based in Peru. She works with partners to manage and implement the portfolio of grants under the institutional framework strategy.
Before joining the Foundation, Mariana worked at Wildlife Conservation Society, where she most recently served as Director of Amazon Landscapes and led the Secretariat of the Amazon Waters Alliance, a multi-country network advancing open, collaborative science to support decision-making and freshwater ecosystem conservation across the Amazon Basin.
A natural resource economist with over 25 years of experience across the Amazon, Latin America, and the Caribbean, Mariana has built a career at the intersection of conservation, science, and partnerships. Her work has focused on designing and managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives, strengthening participatory and citizen science approaches, and advancing knowledge-sharing systems that support effective environmental governance.
Mariana holds a master’s degree in Latin American studies at the University of Florida, and a bachelors degree in Economics from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, Lima-Peru.
