This grant supports Ecotrust's efforts to protect the Copper River's eastern delta and its key salmon populations. In addition to providing valuable salmon habitat, the Copper River's 700,000-acre delta is also a critical staging ground for more than 16 million shorebirds and waterfowl during their annual northward migration. Outcomes for this grant include development of a GIS-based management strategy for habitat protection and watershed, completion of two delta acquisitions, identification of key information gaps, and collaboration with stakeholders to pilot hatchery reforms.
