Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
The grant to Pembina will be used to develop new and credible data on the long-term impacts of mining on salmon ecosystems. This work will help inform the public as they evaluate new mine proposals. It will also shed light on the flaws associated with the existing, highly "streamlined" government process for approving mines. Outputs for the grant include increased regional (Northern B.C.) and Provincial support for developing a comprehensive, sustainable mining policy that is compatible with conservation of wild salmon ecosystems.
