Grant Name:

Testing a novel ecosystem model of the Amazon River-to-ocean continuum

  • Date Awarded:
    Nov 2011

  • Amount:
    $504,363

  • Term:
    18 months

  • Grant ID:
    GBMF2928

  • Funding Area:
    Science

In support of collecting data for and testing a computational biogeochemistry and food web model of the microbial and geochemical dynamics of the Amazon River and its marine plume. The new model uses a unique approach for incorporating microbial structure and function data, and, if successful, could be of broad utility to microbial ecologists by enhancing their predictive capabilities regarding the interplay of marine microbial communities and biogeochemical cycling.
