This grant is helping Fundacao Vitoria Amazonica improve the conservation status of approximately four million hectares of protected areas in Brazil's lower Rio Negro Basin. Outcomes include increased technical and administrative capacity, creation and implementation of an extractive reserve on the Unini River (up to 800,000 hectares), management plans for Rio Negro (146,028 hectares) and Serra do Araca state parks (1.81 million hectares), and the revision, update, and implementation of a management plan for Jau National Park (2.27 million hectares)—one of the largest tropical rain forest reserves in the world.
