The Oceanic Society Expeditions used this grant to finalize the purchase of 11.5 acres of the Turneffe Atoll in Belize. The remote island property, which houses a research facility and small-scale ecotourism lodge, will serve as a permanent strategic site for scientific research, education, and adaptive management in order to preserve the surrounding marine ecosystem.
