This grant supports the initial design phase of a project intended to create conservation areas in Loreto, Peru. This largely intact, forested region of northern Peru spans 36 million hectares. Nature and Culture International will collaborate with a consortium of organizations to assist the regional government in designing a robust and efficient system for zoning. Outcomes include a comprehensive regional system of conservation areas and identification of at least one pilot area with a minimum of 40,000 hectares.
